<br />
The following procedure will help you to fix the ugly resolution by editing <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;"><a href="http://jechem.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-grub-customizer-for-ubuntu.html">GRUB and BURG</a></span></b>, yes BURG affects the Plymouth as well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
First, open terminal then input:<br />
<br />
sudo apt-get install v86d hwinfo<br />
<br />
After the installation run in terminal:<br />
<br />
sudo hwinfo --framebuffer<br />
<br />
*take note of the highest resolution that your display can support when running Plymouth.<br />
<br />
Still in terminal:<br />
<br />
gksu gedit /etc/default/grub<br />
<br />
*this will bring up the text editor for GRUB configuration.<br />
<br />
On the text editor find the line:<br />
<br />
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"<br />
<br />
with:<br />
<br />
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1024x768-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap"<br />
<br />
then find the line that says:<br />
<br />
GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480<br />
<br />
and change it into:<br />
<br />
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768<br />
<br />
save and exit.<br />
<br />
*replace the resolution with the highest resolution that your display supports as listed in hwinfo --framebuffer.<br />
<br />
<br />
Still in terminal input:<br />
<br />
gksu gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules<br />
<br />
*this will again bring you a text editor.<br />
<br />
Scroll to the end of the page and insert:<br />
<br />
uvesafb mode_option=1024x768-24 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap<br />
<br />
save and exit.<br />
<br />
<br />
Type in terminal:<br />
<br />
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma; font-size: 12px;">| </span>sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash<br />
<br />
sudo update-grub<br />
<br />
sudo update-initramfs -u<br />
<br />
This will fix the resolution when you have GRUB.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
To fix the resolution when you are using <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">BURG</span></b>, just do the above steps again but replacing <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">grub</span></b> with <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">burg</span>. </b> This will fix the <a href="http://jechem.blogspot.com/2010/11/cool-plymouth-manager-for-ubuntu-with.html">Plymouth</a> when you have BURG installed as your boot menu.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2043129549648710754.post-31695340318846096902011-01-20T00:20:00.006+08:002011-04-16T11:17:29.534+08:00New GRUB and BURG Customizer For Ubuntu<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma;">If you are like me who wants to do things the easy way then you may want to use this program to configure your Grub. <br />
There is an available background in Ubuntu which is Cosmos. This uses a script to give a slideshow of the pictures inside the Cosmos folder. You could do it the hard way by replacing all the pictures and renaming it with the names used by the Cosmos script. I've tried that and lost interest halfway through. I had a lot of pictures to put so it takes a lot of time to rename all of them and include it in the script, one by one.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
You can do it the easy way with the use of a script made by James named "WallArt". This allows you to install the script and choose where you want to get the pictures to be used as background. It can get random pictures from wallbase.net or use your own set of wallpapers. This is a new script. He just made this yesterday. You can get the WallArt script from this link:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/wallart/">http ://sourceforge.net/projects/wallart/</a><br />
<br />
If you chose to have your personal wallpapers, then all you have to do is copy the pictures to your /home/user/wallpapers. Then you will have your pictures shown as a slideshow on your desktop background. I've tried it and it's that simple. They have released a new multimedia phone packed with all the goodies I want. The Nokia C7 has all I need for Christmas.The best features that I like about it are:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwsDjtUww8XP50wYDXhP6A40l-moTYYHPOXHOLgR7yjImWBpE1JoeVJJxf1ngBg-BRdq-lxvBMtgSO4EI4vRK43Cwqw_BvHRjRIu-1tCo11ukZhm6wUX6Rph60ZIj_edPKAkmQEX2LQCs/s1600/c7_charcoal_black_front_r_604x604.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwsDjtUww8XP50wYDXhP6A40l-moTYYHPOXHOLgR7yjImWBpE1JoeVJJxf1ngBg-BRdq-lxvBMtgSO4EI4vRK43Cwqw_BvHRjRIu-1tCo11ukZhm6wUX6Rph60ZIj_edPKAkmQEX2LQCs/s400/c7_charcoal_black_front_r_604x604.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a><br />
<ul><li>It's polished stainless steel design and a full-touch glass AMOLED display for that HD clear resolution. The stainless steel finish can make heads turn when I pull it out from my pocket. this is one awesome phone. The more I look at it, the more I drool to have this phone for Christmas. Would you just look at that pure awesomeness!</li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div><br />
</div><ul><li>8MP dual LED flash camera to capture my Christmas moments in crystal clear quality. This can be so handy when I go on vacation. I won't be bringing my digital camera anymore. This can take all the photos I want in HD! Who would want to take a 5MP digital camera (that's my camera, by the way) when you have an 8MP that can capture in HD resolution?</li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0SNsAVcTBZHlwPnMEWFHhRjmPm7u8FaOIMmMJ0xrszzNBmJWIPHFFLWZ3nnYWIwmqi3JWC7wTiKQzXGkU8ktGN3PxShyYHcq8uNzvMXZh2vhrH0_2c5UVhEqV_JNzhWRYVdSZ0OQDAus/s1600/c7_charcoal_black_back_604x604.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0SNsAVcTBZHlwPnMEWFHhRjmPm7u8FaOIMmMJ0xrszzNBmJWIPHFFLWZ3nnYWIwmqi3JWC7wTiKQzXGkU8ktGN3PxShyYHcq8uNzvMXZh2vhrH0_2c5UVhEqV_JNzhWRYVdSZ0OQDAus/s400/c7_charcoal_black_back_604x604.png" width="400" /></a></div><div><br />
<ul><li>I can also keep in touch with my online friends with the integrated social network app. I will always be up-to-date with my friends while on vacation. I can go and not worry about being left behind by all the tech updates.</li>
</ul><ol></ol><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-dJGprdCc-VxId7D_DKB7P15ikHmUq2QszxDrXcRn5ZaYl2anWuf9TWe3ACoGczdaOs1Wk53M4Smh6u4hkhCOttDMESsTtG5lNWVPO6PkKvv6VjEbP4C8AYjMlvSdZQ_hJRauf9RdJ2M/s1600/features_social-networks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-dJGprdCc-VxId7D_DKB7P15ikHmUq2QszxDrXcRn5ZaYl2anWuf9TWe3ACoGczdaOs1Wk53M4Smh6u4hkhCOttDMESsTtG5lNWVPO6PkKvv6VjEbP4C8AYjMlvSdZQ_hJRauf9RdJ2M/s400/features_social-networks.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Since I've been working hard this year, I think it's time for me to have some sort of reward for all the hard work, don't you think? All work no play makes me a dull boy.<br />
<br />
There are more amazing features that the <a href="http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-c7-00">Nokia C7</a> can offer but "it's not technology; it's what you do with it."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqxKGE16v4DjiKJMVlTCUnOg5Zjbz38AOcUr_6ECaf3h8mr2JHuMsU_prXLEhZDtoKmORR61W0lLCRkdCQg8CZbhKfXMAOxyVoHNAJMPj9GgNstUoyyBqG_aEMWOaG2tdDFofYTH3LPec/s1600/nokia-c7-front-back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqxKGE16v4DjiKJMVlTCUnOg5Zjbz38AOcUr_6ECaf3h8mr2JHuMsU_prXLEhZDtoKmORR61W0lLCRkdCQg8CZbhKfXMAOxyVoHNAJMPj9GgNstUoyyBqG_aEMWOaG2tdDFofYTH3LPec/s400/nokia-c7-front-back.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The Nokia C7 is definitely on my wishlist.</div>Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2043129549648710754.post-23029655085293660122010-11-21T17:17:00.004+08:002011-04-09T20:35:00.117+08:00Making Panels, Tabs and Menus Transparent in UbuntuHere is another tutorial on how you can personalize your <a href="http://jechem.blogspot.com/2011/04/fix-plymouth-splash-screen-in-ubuntu-on.html">Ubuntu desktop</a>. There are a lot of parts on your Ubuntu desktop that we can customize. Have you noticed that the color of your panels are different from your desktop background? Are your drop-down menus in solid color? We can change that with some simple configurations. Your desktop will look something like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirIVJ4xwB-xvLUEV38pJh4N6sHxPHZmCIqUtDGxD8LyuLzEHsQWgowlGhfZrrPFViG5L1FZXyqNmucJN8QIzgl3Gwoif8XE8zAIdDYOi0F5nCS-NDdQGxHzTicIJZYveOMEYQaaBCSZ1c/s1600/Screenshot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirIVJ4xwB-xvLUEV38pJh4N6sHxPHZmCIqUtDGxD8LyuLzEHsQWgowlGhfZrrPFViG5L1FZXyqNmucJN8QIzgl3Gwoif8XE8zAIdDYOi0F5nCS-NDdQGxHzTicIJZYveOMEYQaaBCSZ1c/s320/Screenshot.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
First, you must have the CompizConfig Settings Manager installed. If you don't have it installed you can install it using Synaptic Package Manager or in terminal with:<br />
<br />
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager<br />
<br />
Now for the tweaking time.<br />
<br />
<b>Transparent Panels</b><br />
<br />
To make your top and bottom panels or whatever panels you have transparent, simply right click on it and choose Properties.Go to the Background tab choose a solid color that is the same as your desktop background. Then slide the Style tab to Transparent until you reach your desired transparency.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8TilLlcZjjRz6m3p30O98xurrRJGmxJ1GLW_S63Yb6x-UkCJUfNxKZgYRmWR6HCeAw97XIvX9bM3rK16xuIcwe1b-ASiMJqRGJwWoigFnFKcaLFFaJAWpNMRBEd4MiRfaL6NxyfWYR0/s1600/Screenshot-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8TilLlcZjjRz6m3p30O98xurrRJGmxJ1GLW_S63Yb6x-UkCJUfNxKZgYRmWR6HCeAw97XIvX9bM3rK16xuIcwe1b-ASiMJqRGJwWoigFnFKcaLFFaJAWpNMRBEd4MiRfaL6NxyfWYR0/s320/Screenshot-1.png" width="225" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>Transparent Window Borders</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><br />
</b></div>To do this you need to go into the Configuration Editor. Go to Applications> System Tools> Configuration Editor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5AYjihv8HILwuz68yanhy3gWoKPpNAVcnC26zg4vyeckDs-Gc9P_FHAFFm9pY4cdJrdzusH-lRC6VY9ZVCeqi0vuGDr0oCZlZVIyRqrVcF-adOkExo50eHTeVXQ_l8I5QF17YSkr1tw0/s1600/Screenshot-2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5AYjihv8HILwuz68yanhy3gWoKPpNAVcnC26zg4vyeckDs-Gc9P_FHAFFm9pY4cdJrdzusH-lRC6VY9ZVCeqi0vuGDr0oCZlZVIyRqrVcF-adOkExo50eHTeVXQ_l8I5QF17YSkr1tw0/s320/Screenshot-2.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
If you don't have it there, you can type in terminal:<br />
<br />
gconf-editor<br />
<br />
Go to apps> gwd and edit the following:<br />
<br />
metacity_theme_active_shade_opacity<br />
<br />
metacity_theme_shade_opacity<br />
<br />
Make the value from 0 to 1 or if its not applicabble just set it to True or check on the box.<br />
<br />

That's it for now. Hope you learned something new while using Ubuntu.<br />
<br />
Kudos to keplerspeed in teaching me this.<br />

Feedbacks are greatly appreciated.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2043129549648710754.post-55763106179953333012010-11-18T19:57:00.003+08:002011-04-29T09:05:18.015+08:00Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal For NetbooksCanonical has released its newest Ubuntu. This is the Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal for netbooks which is a daily build for testing purposes according to <a href="http://netbooksreview.net/news/ubuntu-netbook-11-04/">netbooksreviews.net</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS-nFarv2HqgPe1tcjnmLmiAd7ZJ-5hCz1YOSWSkw8MHCVteT4ZeyfU5Yrb_9dh-u07_7txZgqx2QvCdM8xA9ojLrFRzG4WZ092t2X05kdHdOri-wun7XLrbe7sfKXE3RZm3eaSZQoYJM/s1600/unity_ars-thumb-640xauto-17498.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS-nFarv2HqgPe1tcjnmLmiAd7ZJ-5hCz1YOSWSkw8MHCVteT4ZeyfU5Yrb_9dh-u07_7txZgqx2QvCdM8xA9ojLrFRzG4WZ092t2X05kdHdOri-wun7XLrbe7sfKXE3RZm3eaSZQoYJM/s320/unity_ars-thumb-640xauto-17498.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>It uses Unity as the default interface same as Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. But you can still use your preferred desktop environment if you are not comfortable with Unity. To download the latest build you can go <a href="http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/">here</a> then choose from the list. The ISO is more than 700MB so you need to burn it to a DVD or use a USB drive and it needs a minimum of 256MB RAM for the installation.<br />
<br />
This is in its alpha stage so expect some bugs when you use it. If you do encounter bugs then you can file them in <a href="https://launchpad.net/">Launchpad</a>. You can also go to <a href="http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=394">Ubuntu Forums for Natty Narwhal testing</a>. There you can seek help in case you encounter problems and exchange notes on those running Natty on their systems.<br />
<br />

Now here is a newly developed utility made by Mefrio to help us change the startup and shutdown screen (Plymouth Theme) for newer versions of Ubuntu.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVVgULWVHJ9BfmhfOB4-9FNgdI5p4sHuhSArVNdAySEcOmUxkkBVNq2A-z5NKVdT5PXeLsaP3nVhBFIF2tBO6x4ZZi__MEaFftLzW9oYJNKvJKln-rAvtyJCqilV16OfYglLMb5rLIuSI/s1600/Screenshot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVVgULWVHJ9BfmhfOB4-9FNgdI5p4sHuhSArVNdAySEcOmUxkkBVNq2A-z5NKVdT5PXeLsaP3nVhBFIF2tBO6x4ZZi__MEaFftLzW9oYJNKvJKln-rAvtyJCqilV16OfYglLMb5rLIuSI/s320/Screenshot.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>It is still not available in the official repositories but he's working on it. Meanwhile here is a link to his official webpage:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><a href="http://plymouthmanager.wordpress.com/">http://plymouthmanager.wordpress.com/</a><br />
<br />
Here you can read on updates on the software releases and links to Sourceforge to download the DEB package.<br />
<br />
This can download and install new <a href="http://jechem.blogspot.com/2011/04/fix-plymouth-splash-screen-in-ubuntu-on.html">plymouth</a> themes from the official repos and it also give you an option to make your own theme. You can give it a try if you like to have a nice GUI for changing your splash screen. It's still a fresh software so expect a few things that will not work the way you want it. Just give a feedback on your experiences and suggestions to Mefrio. Give your feedbacks on this utility on the Ubuntu Forums <a href="http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595812">http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595812</a>.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2043129549648710754.post-72061512804555131622010-11-09T15:54:00.006+08:002010-11-21T15:20:33.366+08:00I Support Manny Pacquiao, the World’s #1 Boxer, just like Head and Shoulders, the World’s #1 Shampoo!<div style="text-align: center;"><object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SwwlNu9DsIc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SwwlNu9DsIc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">If you don't like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKUtMXNIsxaf6-wSgAfgRscnIEOjbXB5vKg7EooR05xTRwuA0rVu6qKQZuLRr0y3oygrlFHkL2R7TvbOW_9-VKnPujb1VMmXaF0f-3w6GxVNFcv8Nkqf-OYkkI83F3D6yPuG5YVmVB_jU/s1600/boot1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKUtMXNIsxaf6-wSgAfgRscnIEOjbXB5vKg7EooR05xTRwuA0rVu6qKQZuLRr0y3oygrlFHkL2R7TvbOW_9-VKnPujb1VMmXaF0f-3w6GxVNFcv8Nkqf-OYkkI83F3D6yPuG5YVmVB_jU/s320/boot1.png" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Then we'll make a new one that you would be happy with.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The new Ubuntu uses Plymouth for its splash screen so it is not that simple to change unlike the previous releases.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Here is a simple way to do that thanks to the different forum and blog posts I've read while searching on how to change the splash screen on my Ubuntu 10.04 install.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">First, if you only see a blank screen when your Ubuntu boots type this in a terminal:<br />
<br />
</div><title></title> <style type="text/css">
<!--
@page { margin: 2cm }

</span></pre><div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><div style="text-align: left;">sudo update-initramfs -u<br />
<br />
</div></div><div style="text-align: left;">This will activate your splash screen.</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0.21cm; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">Thanks to this thread:</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0.21cm; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><a href="http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1470876">http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1470876</a></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0.21cm; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>Now to change the image to the one of your liking:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">In terminal type:<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">sudo mkdir /lib/plymouth/themes/simple</div><div style="text-align: left;">(This will create a folder labeled simple inside plymouth.)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">sudo gedit /lib/plymouth/themes/simple/simple.script</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

In my case I have sound problems with PulseAudio in Skype. Here is a quick way to remove PulseAudio.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
<br />
In terminal type:<br />
<br />
sudo apt-get purge libcanberra-pulse pulseaudio pulseaudio-esound-compat pulseaudio-module-bluetooth pulseaudio-module-gconf pulseaudio-module-udev pulseaudio-module-x11 gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pavucontrol </span><br />
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
This will remove <a href="http://jechem.blogspot.com/2011/04/fix-plymouth-splash-screen-in-ubuntu-on.html">PulseAudio</a> from your system and it will also remove your volume applet on your top panel.<br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
We can get back the volume applet and make the function keys work again by doing this:<br />
<br />
Go into System>Adminitstation>Software Sources>Other Software Tab>Add<br />
<br />
Paste this into the APT Line: ppa:dtl131/ppa<br />
<br />
In terminal type:<br />
<br />
sudo apt-get update<br />
<br />
sudo apt-get install gnome-applets gnome-media gnome-settings-daemon libcanberra0<br />
<br />
Restart your computer.<br />
<br />
Right click on the top panel, click Add to Panel choose Volume Control and add it.<br />
<br />
That´s it, we removed PulseAudio and restored your volume applet and function keys.<br />
<br />

<a name='more'></a> Expect a whole new experience for your netbook. You can get the ISO from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download. Create a liveCD and plug it into your netbook then follow the onscreen instructions. It´s just that easy.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2043129549648710754.post-9966490811972964882010-10-02T00:16:00.006+08:002010-11-17T00:21:47.015+08:00TESTED: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat on EEEPC 4GYou can download it from here:<a href="http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/maverick/beta">http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/maverick/beta</a>. Choose the netbook edition. Create a Live CD using the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator or Unetbootin onto a 1 GB USB thumbdrive or SD card. Restart your computer then run the Live CD to install the new Ubuntu 10.10. <br />
<a name='more'></a>If you have the Ubuntu 10.04 ( Lucid Lynx ) installed then all you have to do is press alt+F2 then type ¨update-manager -d¨ without the quotes then press run. Update Manager will appear and tell you ¨New Distribution Release 10.10 is available, just click upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions. By the way you need to have 1.2 GB free on your hard drive to be able to upgrade.<br />
<br />
Install the following after you run the Update Manager:<br />
<br />
VLC : for playing all kinds of videos and music<br />
UBUNTU RESTRICTED EXTRAS : for Java, Flash Plugin, Microsoft Fonts, other codecs, etc.<br />
UBUNTU TWEAK : tweaking the system<br />
GOOGLE CHROME/CHROMIUM : as an alternate browser<br />
<br />
Tested it with my own Asus EEEPC 4G. It works out of the box.<br />
<br />
But if you´re afraid of encountering bugs then you should just stick with your current system.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13398327330431136760noreply@blogger.com3
